Your experience

Description

Amsterdam's Jewish historic quarter is less than one square kilometre in size, but is densely packed with monuments, synagogues and history. There is the stately Portuguese Synagogue, the fascinating Jewish Historical Museum, the attractive Children's Museum, the informative Holocaust Museum and the moving Hollandsche Schouwburg (National Holocaust Memorial). With this ticket you get access to all the above mentioned functions.

Not far from the Amsterdam flea market Waterlooplein, the Jewish Cultural Quarter is located in the green Plantation District. It has a number of important sights. Take a day (or half a day) with a hike through this area.

The Jewish Historical Museum is spread over four monumental synagogues. The permanent exhibitions tell the story of Jewish culture and history in the Netherlands. One part of it - the children's museum - is set up as the home of a typical Jewish family. Learn about the daily life of the Hollander family while you (and your little ones) follow your lively tour guide Max the Matzo.

Directly opposite the Jewish Historical Museum is the impressive Portuguese synagogue from the 17th century. Modest on the outside, the inside of this holy place is breathtaking - and is still used for church services today. The nearby National Holocaust Museum presents a range of historical exhibitions and events, including authentic objects and personal accounts.

No trip here is complete without a visit to the Hollandsche Schouwburg (now the National Holocaust Memorial). Here Jews were processed before deportation to concentration camps. A monument and a memorial room honour her memory here.
