Your experience

In the oldest part of the Hofburg there is a treasure chamber with jewels and wealth. 21 rooms full of jewellery, weapons, precious stones, robes and other symbols of wealth and prestige, collected by the Habsburgs over 800 years, this is probably the most important treasury in the world.

When it comes to royal accessories, this place is unbeatable. There are 21 rooms full of jeweled crowns, necklaces, sceptres and orbs. These objects are not only breathtaking, but also historically significant - including the imperial crown of the Holy Roman Empire

In its 21 rooms there is something beautiful, glamorous and historic at every turn. The rare treasures collected here over the centuries by the Habsburg imperial family include crowns, necklaces, sceptres, baubles, robes, swords and even a unicorn horn. (Not to call the Habsburgs liars, but this last piece may indeed be the tusk of a narwhal).

For luxury lovers, history lovers and those who like shiny things, this is a perfect Viennese change. It also takes three hours or less, so a visit here will give you plenty of time to enjoy more of what Vienna has to offer. Perhaps a piece of Sachertorte and a strong coffee while you talk about the symbolic power of precious stones and metals?

TIP: Buy the audioguide on site (in English, German, Italian and French), it will give you valuable insights and connections about what you see, so that all these priceless and historically significant artifacts don't just turn into "shiny old stuff".
