Your experience

The Bode-Museum combines Byzantine art with one of the largest sculpture collections in the world. And as a bonus it is one of the most beautiful buildings in Berlin! Located on the north side of Museum Island, visitors can admire the stunning craftsmanship of some of the finest craftsmen and artists of the time. Skip the border and immerse yourself in wonderful works of art from the past.

A visit to the Bode will introduce you to artificial waves from all over the world. The museum's collections date from several historical periods - from the end of the Roman Empire to the 19th century

The art styles include the Christian Orient, Byzantium, Ravenna, Italian Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. Enjoy masterpieces from different times and places.

And as if that were not enough, the Bode-Museum also houses the Numismatic Collection with an incredible 500,000 objects - including pieces from ancient Greece, Rome, the Middle East and the Orient

The Bode Museum was built around the turn of the century for Crown Princess Victoria of Prussia. She wanted to show paintings and sculptures side by side. The art historian and curator Wilhelm von Bode fulfilled Her Highness' wishes and changed the way art is shown to this day. And von Bode named this fantastic museum in his honour.

Incomparable in comparison

In the Bode Museum's latest exhibition, everything revolves around contrasts, bringing together different, still similar sculptures from Africa and Europe and asking the visitor to engage with the universal human themes that connect them. It is an exhibition that explores the fine line between ethnography and art history - and the social prejudices they contain.
