Description

For tea or not for tea? That is the question! This guided tour of Shakespeare's Globe is particularly poetic when accompanied by the most English activity: an elegant afternoon tea with the theme A Midsummer Night's Dream, which includes the dishes that the characters in the play eat.

Shakespeare could take you any time and any place he wanted, in simple words - many of which he shaped. It is fitting, therefore, that Shakespeare's Globe (built in 1599) is such a magnificent replica of the theatre where his plays were first performed. The faithful exterior of the Tudor and the thatched roof (the only one in London) are forerunners of the theatre itself, reconstructed in authentic 16th century details.

Going inside is like stepping back into the Elizabethan era. You will see how the theatre was experienced in the 16th century - the standing room for the foundation walls of the working class (they literally stood on the floor) and the staggered, wooden seats for the assembled members of society. You will learn how his plays were the equivalent of Star Wars or The Godfather back then: lively, popular entertainment for everyone.

You visit the exhibition, which rounds off your picture of Shakespeare himself, the London where he lived and wrote, and how rough life could be back then

And after the tour: the last act. Afternoon tea in the elegant Swan Bar with a magnificent view of the Thames and St Paul's Cathedral. Under the motto A Midsummer Night's Dream you will enjoy classics mentioned in the play - think of mulberries (the tree under which Pyramus and Thisbe meet), pea blossoms (the flower from which Oberon's love potion is pressed) and a variety of sweet and savoury delicacies

Did we mention the custom made tableware that reflects the themes of the game? It was specially designed by the illustrator Annika Wester. Oh, and there's also a glass of prosecco. As Shakespeare said, "Good wine is a good, familiar creature when it is well used." And the wine is used very well in this case.
