Your experience

Description

This inspiring adventure begins daily right at the main train station of Florence. This day trip to Pisa offers all the highlights of this medieval city, including the city walls, the monumental entrance and the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Of course, no trip to Pisa is complete without climbing the famous Leaning Tower, which one does not have to wait in the often long queues.

There are few monuments in the world more famous than the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and you can climb all 296 steps to its summit on this fantastic five-hour tour from Florence.

Under expert guidance you will visit the beautiful medieval Piazza dei Miracoli with its cathedral and the superlative baptistery. These splendid buildings testify to the wealth and power that Pisa enjoyed in the medieval world. Look out for the fabulous gargoyles at the corners of the cathedral façade, some of which are quite frightening.

The pièce de résistance is of course the famous Leaning Tower of the city. Work began in 1173, but it took 200 years to complete the 56-meter tower. It wasn't long before the famous Lean started - and even led to the construction being stopped several times

The bell chamber on the upper side was finally added in 1372. After all, the tower was more than just a crooked Romanesque masterpiece: it was also a functioning bell tower for the neighbouring cathedral.

From the top of the tower you can get a bird's eye view of the whole city and follow in the footsteps of Galileo Galilei, who is said to have used the tower in his experiments on gravity.

But don't lean too much - you want to make it safe and sound, so you can take the obligatory photo where it looks like you're pushing the Leaning Tower over - your friends back home will find it funny!
