Your experience

Description

"If music be the food of love, play on" - wrote William Shakespeare. In the Danube Palace (founded in 1895) you will enjoy a musical spectacle and fall in love with the sounds of the Danube Symphony Orchestra and the ballet ensemble of the Budapest Operetta Theatre.

In the series of classical, Hungarian folk and gypsy music you will experience wonderful operetta performances by the soloists of the world-famous Budapest Operetta Theatre

You will hear classics by Franz Liszt, Zoltán Kodály and Emmerich Kalman and experience how the orchestra unfolds its magic in the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 with a cimbalom solo.

What's that? You've never heard the cimbalom? In the 19th century this traditional Hungarian string instrument was pretty much the most important musical instrument that could be played in Hungary, with rich parents encouraging their children to play it instead of the piano. Listen as it plays in perfect harmony and watch the ballet dancers spin to the beat.

There is a short break between the two parts, so grab a wine or a beer and discuss the new culture you have discovered along the Danube.
