Your experience

Description

To admire Eisenstadt's Esterházy Palace - one of the most breathtaking baroque castles in Austria - is to experience the decadence of the super-rich from centuries ago. During your guided tour you will learn all about the history of this castle, which was built at the end of the 13th century and has been the home of the powerful Esterházy family for over 300 years.

The jewel of Esterházy Palace is the Haydn Hall, which is considered one of the most impressive concert halls in the world thanks to its perfect acoustics and extraordinary interior architecture. The famous maestro Joseph "father of the string quartet" Haydn composed many of his works here

Hundreds of years later, the castle is still a lively cultural centre with regular performances, concerts and festivals in its beautiful baroque interiors.

Check your reflection in the Hall of Mirrors, which once served as the main reception of this fairytale castle, and climb onto the balcony to enjoy a magnificent view of Eisenstadt and beyond to Lake Neusiedl - Europe's second largest steppe lake

Other highlights are the Banquet Hall and the Chinese Salon - decorated with elaborate 18th century hand painted patterns. It is easy to walk for hours through the magnificent corridors and imagine the incredible history that these walls have experienced!

Melinda Esterházy

The most recent exhibition of the castle traces the fairytale life of Melinda Esterházy - the Hungarian ballet dancer who married Prince Paul Esterházy V. The exhibition is structured like an opera so that you can go through the various "acts" of her glamorous life and career.
