Your experience

Description

There is nothing in Tuscany that is as enchanting as the Duomo of San Gimignano, also called the Collegiata di San Gimignano. Well, except for the Vernaccia wine and the Taralli, maybe. This Romanesque-Gothic cathedral is brought to life with an audio guide. Explore, gasp and admire, then drive to the adjacent Museum of Sacred Art. See original frescoes from the 13th century and admire art from the college and the churches and monasteries of the region.

The frescoes inside the Duomo of San Gimignano are as bright and lively as in the 13th century - perhaps because there was so little light inside for years. Having survived the bombings of the Second World War, they were taken out from under their dusty shields in 1999 and shown together with the Cathedral in the film Tea with Mussolini.

Visit this beautiful building and see the fabulous frescoes by the Sienese master Bartolo di Fredi, which depict stories from the Old Testament. If you like, play a game where you can discover famous scenes from the creation of the world, Adam in the Garden of Eden, the creation of Eve and the eating of the forbidden fruit

The next stop is the Museum of Sacred Art of San Gimignano, which is spread over two fascinating floors in the residence of the chaplains. Your audio guide takes you through the paintings on wood and canvas and explains some of the sculptures, carvings, illuminated manuscripts, textiles and cutlery

This double whammy is a true Tuscan miracle that will enchant you as much as its wine. Bring your camera and take your time.
