Your experience

Description

Immerse yourself in the more than 900-year history of the Klosterneuburg monastery. See how it has developed into a religious, scientific, cultural and economic centre in Vienna, visit the winery founded in the 13th century and get a free audio guide. And don't miss the Verdun Altar - one of the most important works of art of the Middle Ages!

Klosterneuburg Monastery was founded over 900 years ago by the Babenberg Margrave Leopold III - who later became the patron saint of Austria. It was the residence of the Babenbergs and Habsburgs and its treasury houses the crown of the Archduchy of Austria.

The Verdun Altar is one of the most important works of art of the Middle Ages. It consists of 45 gilded copper plates and is arranged in the Chapel of St. Leopold in three horizontal rows representing the epochs of redemption. Don't miss it when you're here!

But you will also want to enjoy the atmosphere of Klosterneuburg Monastery. Besides being a religious, scientific and economic centre, this place has become a cultural centre for the Viennese. Experience how 900 years of history seep through the walls as you go on a journey of discovery!
