Your experience

Description

See your high school English lessons come to life as you stroll through Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-Upon-Avon, just a two-hour drive from London. Go back to the Bard's beginnings and discover his early inspirations as you explore his charming hometown. You'll see live theatre on demand, rare artefacts from the Trust's collections, his mother's working Tudor farm, his daughter's home and much more!

Shakespeare's birthplace

In the late 16th century the bard was born and raised in this traditional half-timbered house. Today it is a museum with historical furniture - including a replica of the glove-making workshop of John Shakespeare.

Shakespeare's new place

Shakespeare called this his family home from 1597 until his death in 1616. Although demolished in the 17th century, you can follow the foundations of the building, which were uncovered during excavations

Hall's Croft

This Jacobin house belonged to Shakespeare's daughter Susanna and her husband. Do not miss the authentic furnishings and the beautiful garden

Mary Arden's farm

This was the home of Shakespeare's mother. It is a working Tudor farm with archery, falconry and the wonderful sounding daily goose parade. Please note that the operation is closed in winter.

Anne Hathaway's Cottage

For the Romantics, this is an important place to visit; where the young Will courted his future bride (undoubtedly with his poetic powers to win her hand).

After visiting this collection of properties, you can say, as Edmund did in King Lear, "The wheel comes full circle: I am here."
