Your experience

Looking for the ultimate nature experience near Melbourne? Take a walk on the wild side and experience the fantastic feathered spectacle of penguins shuffling up to their dens on a moonlit beach. It's as enchanting and beautiful as it sounds! A day trip to Phillip Island also gives you the chance to meet wallabies, kangaroos, koalas and other Australian marsupials in a safe, spacious sanctuary where they can hop, skip and retreat at will.

After a hard day's work fishing for bite-sized snacks off the south-east coast of Australia, there's nothing like a good mudflat walk across a cool sandy beach to a warm underground. At least that is the philosophy of the wild penguin population of Phillip Island.

Take a 90-minute bus ride from Melbourne and treat yourself to one of nature's elusive spectacles - wild penguins doing what they want. These brave little seabirds arrive in flocks every evening and splash up the beach to end the day.

While you are in the area, you also have the chance for a close encounter with the world's wildest animals, as Phillip Island is also home to a thriving community of kangaroos and wallabies who seize the chance to be in your holiday photos!

It would not be an Australian wilderness expedition without also experiencing a little bit of koalatism. These cute little creatures are also represented in the Koala Conservation Centre.
