Your experience

Description

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful areas in Britain, the Lake District with its picturesque lakes, rugged mountains and expansive countryside has inspired many writers and poets. Travel by train to the world of the famous poet William Wordsworth. Visit his former home, his grave and sweeten things with a typical English gingerbread.

On this day tour with return transport from Manchester you will learn more about one of the greatest English poets, William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850).

Wordsworth loved nothing more than writing about the landscape. His narcissus poem entitled "I wander'd lonely as a cloud" is famously about the Lake District.

Feel inspired to write some poetry yourself when you visit Dove Cottage, the house where Wordsworth lived with his family since 1799. Learn more about the life and work of the brilliant British bard

Then drive to the traditional Lakeland village of Grasmere to eat something bigger than a poem by Wordsworth - some of Sarah Nelson's famous gingerbread! Nowhere else in the world are gingerbreads sold so well.

There are more dramatic landscapes to experience as you descend Lake Windermere to look around the town of Bowness before heading back to Manchester.
