Your experience

Description

The Canary Islands have more to offer than just the fascinating four-year climate of their largest island, Tenerife. Take part in this daring tour with a local expert and sail to La Gomera

If you have ever looked out over the Atlantic Ocean on a clear day from Los Gigantes, you may have had a glimpse of La Gomera, one of the seven islands of the Canary Islands. Get on a fast ferry for a day trip with a strange new language you need to hear to believe!

Observe the dramatic scenery that flows into the sea from Mirador de Vallehermoso (unless it is cloudy, in which case stop at an equally stunning spot) and continue on to Garajonay National Park, a World Heritage Site since 1981. This mist-covered refuge for wild animals offers rare laurel forests, birds, butterflies and subtropical plant species

Next lunch in the beautiful village Las Rosas! While you are immersed in a delicious spread with soups, bread, traditional Canarian sauces, chicken or fish, fresh vegetables and not forgetting wine, the villagers will treat you to a demonstration of their unique Gomeranian whistling language, El Silbo.

El Silbo has been practiced for thousands of years and allows the locals to convey messages through the deep ravines and winding valleys of the island by phonetic whistling. Messages can be transmitted up to a distance of five kilometres! Try this language protected by UNESCO.

If you drive through the beautiful village of Hermigua, you will soon be back in San Sebastián, where you can explore at your leisure. Visit La Torre del Conde (The Count's Tower), La Casa de Colón (Christopher Columbus' house), the Asunción church, or simply take a Dorada on a sunny terrace before taking the ferry back to Tenerife.
