Your experience

Description

Do you feel artistic and refined? So are the Taiwanese, and on this tour a local expert will guide you through ancient temple restorations and pottery thrown in the country's ornate capital. His artistic adventure meets creativity and history!

Sanxia is your first stop, where your guide will tell you the history of the Zushi temple. This small city with its narrow streets southwest of Taipei experienced a difficult time at the end of the Second World War. Thanks to a careful restoration the main attraction, the Zushi Temple, can be admired again. This intricate room was built in honor of the loyalist of the Sung Dynasty, Cheng Chao-ying.

Look at the carved stones, bronze columns and detailed statues. Feel the glow of the stone lions of the temple with their staring eyes and let the scent of the old camphor wood carvings take effect on you. Be sure to take some snapshots of the exquisite bronze bas-reliefs.

Next, get your hands dirty in Yingge, a small town about 30 minutes south of Taipei. It is also the centre of pottery in the north of Taiwan! Try pottery throwing and keep your handmade craft as a proof of your skills!

See hand-painted replicas of elegant vases from the Ming (1368-1644) and Ching (1644-1911) dynasties, which were made in Yingkou. Consider choosing yourself a new stoneware tea set that will be the envy of your guests. Or, if the lions have made an impression, why not get a statue of them instead?
