Your experience

Description

As the home of blues, soul and rock 'n' roll, Memphis cannot be walked around without exploring the musical heritage of Bluff City. The Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum, an invention of the Smithsonian Institute, pays tribute to Tennesees early pioneers of blues, rock and soul whose love of music overcame racial and socioeconomic barriers to create new sounds the world had never dreamed of before.

The museum traces the roots of popular culture back to the 1930s Memphis, from field hands and sharecroppers to the pioneers of blues and rock who created decades of musical and cultural trends.

Without the blues sounds that come from the fields around Memphis, there would be no rock or jazz music, without which there would be no soul, funk, pop or hip-hop. Memphis sent waves around the world that became unstoppable waves of musical inspiration and evolution.

Explore the cradle of pop music and contemporary culture with a state-of-the-art audioguide featuring over 5 hours of fascinating music history and 100 iconic songs to give a vivid picture of the Cultural Revolution that began right here.

It is a moving, inspiring and important cultural experience for anyone who loves music or is interested in cultural history.
