Your experience

  • Explore the overwhelming Norman-Swabian castle
  • Get a fast and direct entry
  • Hear all about the history and architecture from your experienced guide
  • See the most beautiful places of Bari

Experience a journey through time as you explore the fortress of Bari and learn all about its construction, defence and history.

Discover the Castello Normanno-Svevo On a one hour tour of the Norman-Swabian castle, you will see all the important places and the "Gipsoteca", where you can admire the beautiful masterpieces of the Apulian Romanesque. Among them capitals, shelves, statues and architectural details, faithfully reproduced in 1911 by the sculptors Pasquale Duretti and Mario Sabatelli.

Shortly after leaving the castle you will reach the alley "Arco Basso", also called Strada delle Orecchiette (Pasta Street). Here the real "street artists" of the Bari kitchen sit next to each other and with their skilful hands they form the "orecchiette" a typical pasta art in Italy.

Then explore the outside of the Cathedral di San Sabino and learn about its history and architecture

Then it goes on to the Basilica of San Nicola. Learn about the history of the Byzantine citadel and St. Nicholas during an external visit.

You can also enjoy a walk along the old city walls ("Muraglia di Bari vecchia") to the Via Venezia. From there you can admire the fantastic panoramic view of the city and some of the city walls

In front of the old port of Fortino Sant'Antonio, there is one of the four bastions that characterized the walls of Bari until the XIX century, which represent the highest point of the old town. There you have a beautiful view of the traces of the medieval walls next to the waterfront "Kaiser Augustus" (left) and the profile of the waterfront from the first half of the XX century (right).

With the Piazza del Ferrarese you will reach the last point of the tour. The square was formerly known as "Piazzetta d'armi", which was built where the "Porta di Mare" once stood. Today it is the dynamic link between the historical centre and the "borgo murattiano"
