Your experience

  • Discover the East of Georgia, the Alaverdi Cathedral, the Gremi Fortress and the capital Talevi
  • Enjoy traditional Georgian food and taste the wine directly from the region
  • Experience a breathtaking ride over the Gombori Pass on the way back to Tbilisi

In the morning the journey begins eastwards from Tbilisi, towards Telavi in Kachetie, the largest wine growing region in Georgia. The first stop is at Alaverdi Cathedral. The Alaverdi Cathedral is one of the most important orthodox monuments in Georgia and has been on the UNESCO list since 2007.

Next stop is the twin wine cellar in the village of Napareuli. Here you can visit a famous wine museum and learn about the Georgian way of wine production. In the different rooms of the museum you can see how the Georgians make kwewri (huge terracotta tanks), how they plant kwewri in the earth, and how the further steps of wine production take place

The next stop is the Gremi Fortress. Gremi was the most important town in the Kakheti region until the 16th century. Nowadays, the picturesque location of the fortress with its high bell tower and walls makes a deep impression on the guests.

Afterwards you drive to Kwareli, a wine tunnel built under the hills of the Great Caucasus. The total length of the tunnel is 8,000 m and is divided into two main tunnels, each with a length of more than 800 m. The tunnels are used for the maturation of the wine. Above the wine tunnel there is a beautiful restaurant built on the top of the hill with a picturesque view of the Alazani valley. Here you can enjoy delicious and traditional Georgian dishes.

On this tour you will also visit the Prince Chavchavadze Palace in the village of Tsinandali with adjacent French Park and wine cellar. In the wine cellar you can taste different types of local wine.
