Your experience

  • Explore Nashville through a historic lens with your experienced guide
  • Visit places that are important for the history of the city in relation to slaves
  • Explore the Fort Nashborough open-air museum, which gives you a glimpse of the past

On an exciting tour, you will get to know the city from a new perspective. Learn all about the era of slavery that has shaped Nashville to this day. You'll gain insights into where the slaves lived and who they were, but also how the city became the second largest slave port in Tennessee.

First you will visit Lower Broadway, one of the most visited streets in Nashville. Afterwards you will go into the nature. On a scenic walk along the peaceful Riverfront Park, you will see where the slaves traveled across the Cumberland River to a life of servitude and later freedom. Then visit Fort Nashborough, an open-air museum and a replica of the original 17th century Nashville settlement.

The tour continues on to Public Square, where an enslaved man owned his own tavern and entertained Nashville's elite. In just one hour, you'll experience a side of the music city that remained hidden until recently and support local integration efforts by raising awareness of Nashville's stories of diversity.
