We start our Lanzarote trip with a stop at the pictorial Village Yaiza, which is settled at the edge of the Firemountains. Here you can take beautiful panoramic photos of the volcanic chain of the Timanfaya mountains or simply enjoy a “Cafe con Leche”.
We continue our trip by bus towards the national park Timanfaya. Here you get the opportunity to briefly ride a dromedary (optional 25 minutes, 6€), an unforgettable experience for young and old.
Afterwards we reach Lanzarote's most visited attraction: the ”Montanas del Fuego”. Those “Firemountains” were formed during volcanic eruptions between 1730 and 1736, where one-hundred volcanoes with over three-hundred craters covered the island with lava. Witness fascinating geothermal experiments with still existing ground heat and enjoy a breathtaking excursion through the national park afterwards. The bus drivers are really talented, being able to drive their huge vehicles through the small streets between the volcanic vents and surrounding lava landscape.
While driving, you will listen to authentic recordings of Yaiza's priest “Lorenzo Curbelo”, who documented his experiences as an eyewitness of the volcano eruptions during the 18th Century. He gives an impression on how the life of every human was influenced by those forces of nature.
Afterwards we will visit the wine-growing district La Geria, a 5000 square meter wide cultural landscape, which is characterized through the unique method of dry farming. Several thousands of so called “Zocos” (funnel-shaped constructs, with one vine growing in each construct) form this extraordinary landscape.
Caused by its unusual appearance, the area was declared as a masterpiece of art by the famous “Museum of Modern Art” in New York during the sixties.
On location you will learn a lot from your personal Lanzarote-guide about the tedious work, that is caused by this way of wine-growing. It is a must to visit one of the many Bodegas, where you can enjoy the remarkable landscape with a glass of wine and look back at the day.
Between 14.00 and 15.00 o'clock you will be back at the starting point.
The tour is offered all year round, however there will be no tours on the December 25th and January 1st.
