Your experience

Description

First you will be introduced to the most important periods of the history of Hungarian Jewry and the Elizabethan City. After a tour of the so-called Pest Jewish quarter, we visit the synagogue in Rumbach Street, the main temple of the former status quo Judaism from the outside. As the highlight of the tour we stop at the synagogue in Dohány Street, which is the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world.

The tour continues at the Jewish Museum, where you will gain insight into a unique collection of sacred and everyday objects from Hungary and its neighbouring countries, and learn about the customs and traditions of Hungarian Jewry with the help of a local guide. The museum also has a separate room dedicated to the Hungarian Holocaust

Afterwards we visit the cemetery of the martyrs, the Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Park with the "Tree of Life" and the Temple of Heroes from the outside. Finally, there is the possibility to visit the Jewish Centre - this includes archives of Hungarian Jewry and an audio-visual exhibition about the history of the Jewish quarter.
